RefWorks guide: Backups

Creating backup from a RefWorks -database

1. Choose the references you wish to backup. You can backup everything by selecting All documents, or just a single folder from My folders, or just specific references from within a folder.

2. Click Share & export from the top toolbar and select Export references.

3. A new window will open, which lets you choose if you wish to backup only the selected references (if you selected only specific references), or all the references in the current folder. You can also choose to make the backup in BibTeX or RIS -format.

 Notice! For now, RefWorks lets you restore backups only from RIS -format.

4. Select Export, and a new window will prompt you to save the backup file to your computer.

When you wish to restore backups:

1. Open RefWorks.
2. From the top toolbar, select the + -button and Import references.
3. A new window will open. You can either drag & drop the backup file into the Drop file here -box, or you can click the Select a file from your computer, which lets you browse your computer for a backup file to be restored.
4. Choose the file to be restored.
5. RefWorks will automatically indentify the format of the file and wishes you to confirm it. For now it will recognize backups in RIS -format only.
6. Select Import and Continue. All restored references will be returned into Last imported -folder. You can then move the references to a folder of your choice.
